Mini documentary from ABC on Ashlyn So’s journey from design to activism and now the combination of both.

Join Ashlyn So to a journey of

FASHION and ACTIVISM.

It all started the day Ashlyn came back from her sewing camp at 6 years old. She was obsessed! She loves designing then draping, pinning and sewing.

Ashlyn also loves to help others. She can’t help but empathize those less fortunate around her. She wants to use her gift of design to benefit those in need. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ashlyn started making masks for frontline workers. She couldn’t believe hearing about the PPE shortages and she wants to protect the heroes who are keeping us safe and healthy. She was then named People’s Hero by E! People’s Choice award at the end of 2020. She had since made 1000 masks.

Ashlyn has shown her collection at five fashion shows, three (2021, 2020, 2017) of which are during New York Fashion Week and one during Paris Fashion Week. Her style is avant garde and out of this world. She designs custom dresses for women and girls attending galas, graduations and special occasions. She was named one of the youngest Asian American fashion designers.

At the beginning of 2021 still in the midst of the pandemic, she saw news of Asian elders being bullied, hurt and murdered. She collected all her strength and energy to start not one but 2 rallies to #standforasians and Stop AAPI Hate. Since, she has spoken at numerous other rallies and conferences against racism and hate towards love and unity. She started combining her fashion and activism and believes that fashion gives people an identity and a voice. She's been written up in Teen Vogue and Seventeen Magazine Voice of Change and named PopSugar 21 under 21 Unstoppable Women amongst various other local and national news channels in the US, Asia and France. She was also invited to tell her story at The Ellen Show with Tiffany Haddish. She spoke at the United Nations International Day of Peace in Sept 2022 to End Racism and Build Peace. Ashlyn continues to create change and positive impacts to both youth and adults around her. She shares her generosity, love and kindness to those in need. Her collection last year during NYFW is called "Beneath the Surface" to encourage us to look beyond everyone's skin color. Last year during Paris Fashion Week, she debuted her collection inspired by Bruce Lee's "Be Water." Her designs will be fluid, multidimensional and to be viewed from multiple angles to remind us that we are all three dimensional beings not to be stereotyped.

This year’s solo show at NYFW, Ashlyn shares her mental health journey though all the ups and downs of being a teen, fashion designer and an activist called “Unseen.” It describes how she has felt her voice is not heard to how everyone can find strength in themselves and those around them to rise again to heal. She’s named by Vogue Hong Kong as one of three Designers to Watch.

We want to share our journey with you! We hope that on the way, you will help Ashlyn in her journey!
